You are invited to an old fashioned clambake at KCC, serving Newport County for over 65 years. When the bake bell rings, we'll serve you a feast of clam chowder, steamed clams, mussels, a whole lobster (or charcoal broiled chicken or steak), chourico and much more. History of Our Club
In the early part of the 1900s, the late Esau Kempenaar came to the United States from the Netherlands and started one of the biggest nursery businesses on the east coast; Boulevard Nurseries. After a few years went by he really wanted a place for his fellow workers, family and friends to relax and take part in an old fashioned clambake, so he built Kempenaar's Clambake Club.
Year after year the facility became more popular to guests from all over and everyone wanted to experience a true Rhode Island clambake. Now over 50 years later the legacy lives on.
Located in a valley grove of evergreens, our facility easily serves a small intimate group but can expand to accommodate a gathering of 700 or more. We're just a few minutes from the beaches and the popular Newport waterfront, yet we're sheltered from blowing sands and the damp night winds. And Kempenaar's has plenty of free parking, which comes at a premium in this area.
Look over our menu. Each dish can be specifically tailored to fit your individual tastes or you can choose one of our tried and true standards.
